183, 000 people are affected by the data breach at the Golden Corral chain of restaurants.

After more than 180, 000 people’s personal information was stolen in an August cyberattack, the chain of American restaurants Golden Corral disclosed a data breach.

In 298 locations across 43 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, Golden Corral offers an all-you-can-eat buffet and grill ( operations are temporarily suspended at 24 locations for undisclosed reasons ).

The business claimed in a press release that attackers stole the sensitive information of” current and former employees and beneficiaries” between August 11 and August 15.

A data security incident caused a temporary disruption to our corporate operations on or around August 15, 2023, according to Golden Corral.

Federal law enforcement was informed of the incident by Golden Corral. Additionally, Golden Corral is putting in place additional safeguards.

Golden Corral located address data for all impacted individuals on January 26 and began sending breach notification letters on February 16. After determining the scope of the information in the potentially impacted files, it started sending breach notification letters.

Golden Corral disclosed in a filing with Maine’s Attorney General that 183, 272 people had their data stolen during the attack, despite today’s press release not listing how many people were affected by this data breach.

While conducting an investigation into the incident, Golden Corral discovered that the stolen information could include names for employees, dependents, and beneficiaries, as well as social security numbers, financial information, driver’s license numbers, medical information, a username and password, and health insurance information.

Individuals are encouraged to keep an eye out for instances of identity theft by reviewing account statements and explanations of benefits for unusual activity, the restaurant chain warned.” While Golden Corral is unaware of the misuse of any personal information impacted by this event, individuals are advised to continue to monitor this situation.”

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the appropriate financial institution, health care provider, or insurance company.

When BleepingComputer contacted a Golden Corral spokesperson earlier today, she could not be reached for comment.
