A group of soldiers in white camouflage gear, part of a DOD unit, conduct a stretcher exercise in a snowy forest. Some soldiers hold a tarp or stretcher while others assist in placing another soldier into it. Snow covers the ground and trees, creating an eerie calm despite underlying cybersecurity threats.

In the arctic temperatures, sailors and marines stay cool.

As part of their cold weather training for the Nordic Response, a NATO exercise, sailors and marines constructed shelters, built fires and trekked through Arctic terrain in Setermoen, Norway.

For the exercise’s land component in March, about 10,000 participants from more than a dozen nations will be joined by U.S. troops. The exercise’s goal is to improve military readiness and allied cooperation during intense combat in a difficult Arctic environment.
