The Small Business Innovation Research ( SBIR ) Program, the federal government’s largest platform to support U.S. technology innovation research and private-sector commercialization, receives numerous grant applications from science and technology researchers each year. Our country’s economic security, health, and quality of life will all be improved by the program.
To capitalize on America’s commitment to technological innovation, Congress established the SBIR program 41 years ago. As more small business applicants become aware of, explore, and actively participate in the SBIR program, interest in it increases annually.
One of the 11 federal government organizations that runs an SBIR program is NIST. The Small Business Administration is in charge of running the program as a whole. The 11 participating federal agencies and departments each tailor their SBIR programs to the particular research requirements within their research portfolios, though.
Small business organizations ( SBCs ) based in the United States are eligible for the SBIR program. An SBC is a business that satisfies the requirements for the SBIR program, as stated in 13 C. F. R. 121.702. Additionally, the applicant’s proposed research, development, and research work must be carried out in the US.
