Microsoft is releasing a Windows 10 KB5001716 update to improve Windows Update, which, ironically, fails to install and displays errors 0x80070643.
This update, known as the” Update for Windows Update Service Components,” was released by Microsoft over the years when Windows Update needed to add new features.
However, the KB5001716 update is not installing, causing 0x80070643 errors to appear in Windows Update without any specifics about what is causing it, instead of improving Windows Update.
We’re going to try again later because there were some issues with installing updates. This may be helpful if you keep seeing this and want to look up the web or get in touch with support: ( 0x80070643 ),” reads the Windows Update error message.

However, more details will appear in the Windows Event Viewer, indicating that this error was brought on by the KB5001716 update’s failure to be installed.
The Windows event logs read” Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200B: 2023- 10 Update for x64-based Systems ( KB5001716).”
This update appears as an October 2023 update, which is confusing because it was released by Microsoft in March 2024.

BleepingComputer was first informed of the KB5001716 installation issues after a member posted them in our discussion forums.
On our own Windows 10 computer, BleepingComputer has since discovered the same installation issues.
” Ok, I looked at the update history and discovered that it had been silently installed last night before 4 other failed attempts were made to install the same update. So, is it installed or not? What a mystery, reads a post on Wilder Security Forums.
The issue appears to be related to the fact that the majority of people installed the update when it was released by Microsoft in October 2023. The error was caused by Microsoft redistributing the same update to those computers for some reason.
This update will now work without any issues for those who did n’t install it in October.

How to fix KB5001716,  , installation issues
A user on Reddit  pointed out that you can uninstall the older update that was installed in October 2023 and reinstall it using the KB5001716 update to fix this issue.
To uninstall the KB5001716 update, go to Settings >, Apps, and under Apps &, features, scroll down until you see it, click on it, and then click Uninstall, as shown below.

BleepingComputer has confirmed that once the KB5001716 update is uninstalled, it can be checked for updates once more and be successfully installed in Windows Update.
